A summary for you on what to expect in this edition in case you want to scroll down to the interesting bits: AU character profiles - familiar and new, with some mockup images; and the progress report with an update on my week-on-week sales and writing progress.
We’re getting so close to the start of Don’t Move Your Desk, our AU-verse serialised novel! (By the way - I should really keep explaining this because I know I’m getting new subscribers who probably haven’t seen earlier posts: AU means alternate universe, so taking the same characters but plonking them down in a brand new setting and seeing what happens).
I’m going to say this right up top - make sure that you subscribe now to get all the chapters for free in your inbox. Once they go behind the paywall, you won’t be able to get them back unless you upgrade to a paid membership, so this is your one chance to read the whole book for free. If the character profiles below get you excited, upgrade now and support me as I write this!
Existing Characters
Let me start by going through the characters we already met in the book this AU-verse is based on, Don’t Move Out. They may not be in the forms you recognise…
One thing to note is that while the characters were just starting college in the first book, this one has them not meeting until much later. In this version, Olly and Keaton didn’t go to high school together and didn’t meet at college - so I took the time to imagine how their personalities might have developed without each other to lean on and learn from. We meet them now in their early thirties, coming across one another for the very first time.
Oliver Harvey - the tightly-buttoned and tight-lipped CEO of a very successful firm that manages star athletes. He stopped being an athlete himself years ago, but he’s still extremely busy with the day-to-day running of the company and schmoozing with high-caliber sponsors, brands, and managers.
Keaton Dunbar - Harvey’s new secretary. He took the job without meeting his boss, but knew that Oliver Harvey was the same rude douche that snapped at him at a recent conference. He’s an undercover documentary filmmaker wanting to make an exposé of the sports world.
Ace Park - Harvey’s top agent who is responsible for some of Harvey’s highest-earning stars, plus three gay players. He has a soft spot for cute Keaton and recognizes that he is also gay, so he wants to give him a shot. Ace is out and proud but focused more on his work than on dating.
Clara Dunbar - Keaton’s little sister, a successful Hollywood scriptwriter. Well, sort of successful. Well, she’s worked on one pilot. Okay, so it didn’t get sold. But she’s going to be successful in the future!
Caleb Coleman - Harvey and Coleman started out as football players together, but soon retired from the game and launched rival sports agent firms. There has been some debate (inside my own head ahaha) about what Caleb looks like. In this novel (and realistically in all the books) he is Black. It won’t come into this story, but if you were wondering, he and Cade Coleman were adopted. (or share only one parent. Damnit. I still haven’t decided fully).
Aubrey Coleman - Caleb’s long-suffering wife.
Ridley Angus - The hottest most successful quarterback of all time, Harvey’s star client and Keaton’s not-so-secret crush
Brody Driver - Another agent at Caleb’s firm with a bad reputation and who considers himself Ace’s rival (p.s. this is the first time I’ve actually given Brody a surname even though he’s been in 3 books and a short story ahaha)
New Characters
These folks are brand-new for the serialisation!
Jordan Muriel - Keaton’s recent ex
Fernando Quijada - Clara’s boyfriend, and would-be fiancé, who also works at the Harvey Agency
Helen Alcori - Harvey’s old secretary who is determined to get her job back
There may well be more side-characters later, too. What do I know? I haven’t finished writing it yet! That’s what makes this so exciting! I even edited this post multiple times after writing it to match what I’ve been working on, AND I also updated my plot that I was working on to match what I had written here! Development!

In general news - the Crowhill Cove series is now responsible for more than 50% of my all-time KDP earnings. That’s… pretty amazing, considering it started coming out 7 months ago and I started publishing my own books 8 years ago. It’s funny what can happen when you decide to start taking something a bit more seriously!
