Draft One: Complete
News from Crowhill Cove
A summary for you on what to expect in this edition in case you want to scroll down to the interesting bits: changing my schedule; finishing the first draft of Project Emergency Crime; and the progress report with an update on my week-on-week sales and writing progress.
Reminder for schedule change
This is just a quick reminder that I will be posting on alternate weeks on Wednesdays going forwards! This will be the last time you hear from me until Saturday 1st, and then you will hear another Wednesday update on Wednesday 5th. Don’t be alarmed when you don’t see an update between those times! Let’s see how the new schedule sits.
Upcoming topics for this newsletter include current thoughts on Best Picture watches from yesteryear (several posts underway); something about Love, Simon’s structure; trees in Wuthering Heights, The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, and Jane Eyre (25% done); a series of essays about The 100, continuing with the show’s exploration of ecocriticism (queued); a critical essay about my essay about walking (lol) (scheduled); and an essay about gender in walking (80% done).
First draft complete!
Weeeee. I did it! First draft of Project Emergency Crime is done. She’s not quite sitting at 55k words - more like 52k - which is excellent, because I’ve come up with a much cleverer way to tie everything up in the finale and now I need to go back and add in scenes that give the necessary setup to make that happen. That will be draft two, as well as dealing with a few inconsistencies and seeing what needs tightening with the romance part of the storyline. I’m having fun, though. I really enjoy the final chapter.
Books
Okay, you've read the Substack posts (and maybe you're a little bit confused if that's where you started). Wondering who all of these characters are? Thinking you need a refresher on past books?
Each week, I share the latest update from Operation Published! If you’re looking for the best bits from the week, please do follow me on TikTok instead.
All of these videos are available on TikTok for free, but if you’re a) not a TikTok user or b) just want the highlights, this is a convenient place to see it.
This week’s was filmed before I finished the first draft, but not by much -
Note: Changes are in bold, comments in italics.
