I dream in books… do you?

Hi! I’m Rhiannon D’Averc: an author, ghostwriter, writing coach, Master’s in Literature and Culture student, and all-around book obsessive.

Stick around here to:

  • Read my thoughts on literature, usually from an ecocritical, feminist, ecofeminist, or queer theory perspective

  • Watch me experiment with all areas of the writing experience: style and genre, publishing, marketing, and beyond - with real numbers

  • Read my serialised novels (so far: Don’t Move Your Desk is completed, Hydropower is on mid-season hiatus)

  • Read exclusive short stories, some of them sexy

  • See teasers for upcoming books - like cover art and first chapters - before anyone else

  • Learn what I can share about the craft of writing

  • Vote on future content and even influence future books

  • See behind-the-scenes glimpses of my process, such as my notes or plot outlines as I work on the books

  • Enter occasional giveaways for signed books or other merch

  • Hear me occasionally read my work out loud, possibly complete with my terrible and hilarious attempts to do different voices

  • Get weekly updates on how my writing and sales are going

Where is all this stuff?!

It’s here, starting July 2023. But 60 days after getting published, it all goes dark. If you want access to the full archives, just become a paid subscriber! It’s super cheap and allows me to carry on writing without quite so much guilt about the fact I should be working on client projects instead.

This whole thing is basically a huge experiment - you can read more about that and why I’m doing it here:

The Great Experiment

We’re a few weeks into our journey here, and I wanted to spend some space talking about …

I share all the writing-related stuff (for example, updates and behind-the-scenes stuff, guides and tips, how I do things, and so on) under the Writing Craft section. Stuff related to books - teasers, imagery, giveaways, and so on - go under the Crowhill Cove section. Exclusive fiction will be under the Shorts and Serialisations section. The Literature section is for, well, my thoughts on literature.

So, if you’re keen to read about the ins and outs of publishing, keep up with the experiment of this Substack, and see what I’m up to - but you don’t want to read gay romance - you can just subscribe to Crowhill Cove and ignore Shorts and Serialisations. Or any combination of the sections! I don’t judge. You can just stick to being subscribed to all three if you want weekly updates.

I also share an annual round-up of everything I’ve done, what did and didn’t work, and what I intend to do next year. Here’s the 2023 edition:

Year in Review

We’re coming to the end of 2023, so, of course, it’s an excellent time to look back at the year - and the series - behind us. What I did, what worked and didn’t work, and what I can take from that in…

What do paid subscribers get?

You get, quite simply, everything!

All of the posts in my archive and future posts will be open to you. This includes paid subscriber exclusives that will never be available to the general public. You also get the full edition of my TikTok posts - 5 videos vs just one.

If you subscribe as a Book Reader - only $10 more for the year - you’ll also get exclusive ebook editions of all of my books published through this Substack, for free, sent to you before anyone else. Considering I usually put out between three and five books a year, that’s great value!

Plus, if you refer a friend, you can earn free months of paid membership for nothing more than sharing something you love with someone you love.
